"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood". Fred Rogers
Hanover Nursery School (HNS) welcomes three, four, and five year old children. HNS provides a safe, caring environment away from home where children can learn and grow. Students are challenged to explore the world around them , as our belief is that young children learn best in a hands-on environment. Our small class sizes enable our teachers to recognize each child as an exceptional and creative individual. Activities foster listening, language development, cooperation, fine and gross motor skills. A healthy dose of running, skipping, jumping, and dancing keep them active too!
HNS has a program to fit your child's needs. Through independent exploration, structured group activities, and hands-on learning. HNS students will develop literacy, math, science, and social skills. For the three-year-old class there is either a 3 day or 4 day program. The four-year-old class has the option of a 4 day or 5 day program with the option to do an extended day on Monday and Wednesday AND/OR Tuesday and Thursday. Please see program offerings and daily schedules below for more information.
Our three-year-old curriculum incorporates age appropriate activities that are both educational and fun. Skills such as cutting, pencil grip, letter, number, color, and shape recognition, along with trying new things are learned through cooking in our kitchen, tending our garden, and exploring nature and the world around us. There are 8 spots available for this program.
Two Day Option: 8:30-1:00
Wednesday and Friday
Our older learners enjoy a more challenging curriculum that incorporates math, science, social studies, and literacy. They are asked to take more responsibility for themselves, and in return they are given more opportunity to impact the direction of learning. Additionally, the second half of the year is devoted to "World Travels". This allows them to try new foods, hear other languages, study maps, along with recognizing and and celebrating similarities and differences between cultures and landscapes. There are 12 spots available for this program.
Three Day Option: 8:00-12:30
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
We now offer an optional extended program on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This is a wonderful program designed to help prepare children for a longer school day. The children will have special themed curriculum activities during this time. It runs for an extra two hours, after lunch bunch from 12:30-2:30on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursday.
